Unique yews were discovered in Primorye

Primorye has the biggest yews groves in the country. This tree grows up to hundreds of years and is considered to be the living fossil. 

The Chernishevsky forestry holds about five hectares of yews. This part of taiga is a sanctuary. 

Yew is a relic plant. The tree is often referred to as a living fossil, that has lived up to this day in its natural state. This is a precious and unique species for Russia. The tree only grows for about 30 years ones in 25 years. During this time, it gets only 10 centimetres bigger. 

Besides Primorye, yews also grow in Khavarovsk and Sakhalin regions, as well as in Japan, Korea and China. 

Yews can also be spotted in Lazo sanctuary on Popov island in Primorye.
